Grow Me Some Hair!

This week we got a new product into the salon, and I am beyond excited to be testing it out. DS Labs is promising me hair that grows thicker and faster, just by washing it with their Revita shampoo. Score. I've strategically starting using the shampoo immediately after getting my roots done, so I will have a clear line to show how much my hair has grown. I'm on day three of use, and this is my take so far: Pros:

My hair feels FABULOUS. For those of who don't know me, I am currently struggling with blondarexia. Blondarexia is a technical term for a person who bleaches (uh, excuse me, decolorizes) their hair to a frizzy frazzled crisp on a mission to eliminate all trace of color. Needless to say, when my hair gets wet, it feels like overcooked spaghetti. It resembles cotton candy that has been soaked in water, and it does not want to do anything I tell it to- until now. Some of the ingredients in the shampoo and conditioner include extracts of apple seed oil, rooibus, caffeine, ginseng,  wheat protein, and rice protein. They are magic, and sound like they would make a delicious tea, you know, if they weren't in shampoo form. For the first time in months I'm able to blow dry and style my hair, and I must say, I've been looking quite saucy this week.

Cons:

I have to wash my hair everyday, when I normally go about 3-4 days in between washes. This can make some people have to adjust their daily routine. For someone like me, having super clean floufy hair works in my favor, but my boss who has super curly hair has been struggling with controlling the largeness of her curls since switching shampoos. It also adds quite a bit of time to my shower. The instructions tell you to shampoo, leave for 1 minute, rinse, shampoo, leave for 3-5 minutes, rinse, and then let the conditioner sit for 3-5 minutes as well.

My first impression is that it's a great product to protect and repair hair, even if it doesn't fulfill it's promise. Results, which are supposed to be up to 1" of growth in a month, are guaranteed within 60 days (as long as it is used according to the manufacturers directions), so I'll be checking in then with an update!

Janet Goes Punk Rock- In a Classy Way of Course

When it comes to what is often called "fashion color" (basically hair colors not found in nature) I think there is a fine line between beautifully done, and manic-panic-in-the-bathroom style. In my opinion, keeping the color dimensional, whether you're going brunette or hot pink, keeps your coif looking super awesome and professional. And of course if you're wanting to do something fun, but don't want to deal with your whole head being colored, peek-a-boos in all colors of the rainbow are really fun and low maintenance.

Woah! First Blog Ever

Ah September, you cruel mistress you. Even though you mean winter is quickly approaching, you win me over every year with the promise of apple picking, fairgrounds and above all else, fall fashion. Slight dips in temperature mean layering while still being comfortable, a time to dig out scarves, tights and boots, glorious glorious boots. And this September brings even more awesomeness than normal, as I get ready to celebrate my first year  at O2 Salon, my first year as a wife, and starting my very first website! In honor of September and all that is fabulous, my first blog post will include photos from a shoot with Zwickerhill Photography and the lovely Kendyll. When it comes to hair, Kendyll is the epitome of low maintenance (before this shoot, she had not had a professional haircut in seven years. SEVEN). She came into the salon ready for a good haircut, and open to the idea of having some color done for the first time ever. She had always wanted to be a redhead, and as we coast into fall, rich, deep colors totally rock my world. Because Kendyll may not step foot into a salon for another decade, I decided to go with color that would grow out well over time, darkening and warning up her base just a touch, and adding lots of red and chocolate low lights through her length. In the light her hair shines a brilliant auburn, while staying close enough to her natural that she won't have mega roots to deal with if she decides to go back to au natural!
